Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education

Music is my life, and teaching people to play this music on guitar is my passion. My focus is on the individual student, not on just one uniform curriculum. I teach each student at his/her own pace and in their musical interests, focusing on style, technique, and music theory. I have had many successful students over the years and have shown them that playing guitar is fulfilling, educational, and most of all fun. It is rewarding for both my students and myself to further this musical experience.

My Teaching Background

I have been playing guitar for 16 years and teaching for 10 years. I have experience playing, performing and teaching several different styles including rock/heavy metal styles, blues, jazz, country, and classical. I have a Bachelor of Musical Arts degree in classical guitar performance from Pacific Lutheran University, where I studied and performed in classical and jazz styles. I also am a part of the local music scene, playing lead guitar in my band Empire of Ashes based in Tacoma.

Lessons are taught in a safe, professional studio. The studios are equipped with the tools and material that the student needs to excel as a musician, and they provide a great environment for learning without distractions. There is also a waiting area for the parents and friends to sit and watch the lessons as well.

My Teaching Philosophy

I understand that each person learns differently and has different musical goals. Because of this, I do not teach everyone the same. I do not teach out of any specific book or teaching program. Instead I design lessons around the student and their own personal style and goals. I feel that this creates a more motivating and driven curriculum and makes lessons more enjoyable for myself and my students. Through these lessons the student learns the styles they are interested in, proper guitar technique, and music theory that will help them understand this musical world we live in.
